The Russian Embassy in the United States stated on Thursday that the United States should make an effort to show that it is not responsible for blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
Igor Girenko, the press secretary for the embassy, said in a statement that the Russian side will not permit simply to turn the page on destroying crucial energy infrastructure, especially given the fact that nothing is known about the leftover explosives on the bottom of the Baltic Sea.
“We qualify the incident as an act of international terrorism that requires a comprehensive and independent investigation. The United States, claiming to be the source of the ‘ultimate truth,’ should drop the baseless accusations against us and get down to business,” Girenko said.
Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh disclosed that the United States and Norway collaborated in a top-secret operation in June 2022 to plant remotely detonated explosives that destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipes three months later in a piece that was published last week.
