Bangladesh Bank (BB) has allowed the mobile operators to receive roaming bills in Taka.
“To make roaming services easier for resident Bangladeshi travellers, it has been decided that mobile operators in Bangladesh can accept payments from a customer in Taka, up to a maximum of Taka6,000 per trip and Taka30,000 over a calendar year,” said a BB circular issued today. Previously, in order to access roaming services, Bangladeshi travelers had to pay with foreign money using international cards.
In order to activate roaming services, mobile providers must adhere to specific guidelines.
When using multiple mobile numbers or operators, the total limit cannot be exceeded. The traveler’s ticket and visa must be valid. According to the circular, roaming services must to be made available a week prior to the trip.
Additionally, the central bank has permitted mobile operators to pay international network operators.According to the circular, banks must follow certain guidelines in this situation.
