118,000 more Rohingya entered Bangladesh in last 1 year, registration completed

According to data from the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), an estimated 118,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to Bangladesh in the past year due to the armed conflict, growing violence, and acute food and medicine shortages in Myanmar’s Rakhine State.

The main cause of the rise in Rohingya infiltration, according to the escaping Rohingyas, is the conflict between the Arakan Army and the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) in Rakhine.

They added that throughout the past few months, there has been a serious lack of food and medication in the state of Myanmar.

Speaking to media, RRRC Additional Secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said on Sunday that as of 1 May, the registration of 118,000 new Rohingya people who have fled Rakhine state has been completed in various shelter camps in Ukhia and Teknaf. They have crossed the border and come to the shelter camps in the last one year, with most in June-July last year.

He added that while the recently arrived Rohingya people have received food assistance, a decision about the distribution of housing to them has not yet been made.
