On November 26, a seven-day book expo will open on the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Khulna city.
The government has decided to hold divisional level book fairs throughout the nation in an effort to encourage the general public to read more books.
The fair will be organised by the National Public Library and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the office of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner.
Today, the office of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner hosted a news conference in its conference room.
According to Divisional Commissioner Md. Helal Mahmud Sharif, reading can help create deserving individuals.
A book, even like a friend can pull up from moral degradation, he said, adding “Nothing but a book can remove social degradation and dishonesty as well. He urged all book lovers’ to visit the fair.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Hussain Showkot, Deputy Director of the Divisional Public Library Mohammad Hamidur Rahman were present at the press briefing.
There will be over 80 booths at the book expo. Of these, 60 stalls will be set aside for Dhaka publishers, 10 for each of the ten districts in the Khulna division, 6 for government offices, 2 for law enforcement, and the rest stalls for refreshments and food for guests, poets, writers, and the media corner.
In addition, a number of seminars, cultural events, and kid-friendly quiz contests will take place daily.
On holidays, the fair will be open from 10 am to 9.30 am, although it will still be open from 3 pm to 9.30 pm.
For the fair to be a success, close circuit (CC) cameras and the deployment of police and other law enforcement personnel will provide strict security.
