In order to realize the goal of creating a developed Bangladesh, Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus today voiced the expectation that the women of the nation will advance in step with the developed globe.
“To achieve the goal of creating a developed Bangladesh, Bangladeshi women will advance in step with the developed globe. In a statement commemorating International Women’s Day, which will be marked in Bangladesh tomorrow, he stated, “This should be our commitment to the development and empowerment of women in Bangladesh.”
“In 1975, the United Nations recognized March 8 as International Women’s Day. Like other countries in the world, this day is celebrated every year in Bangladesh to protect women’s rights,” the Chief Adviser said.
This year’s theme of day is ‘Rights, Equality, Empowerment/ Development of Women and Girls’, he added.
Women were at the vanguard of the July-August mass uprising that students, workers, and the masses organized in pursuit of the nation’s democratic transition, Dr. Yunus remarked, highlighting the role of women in the recent student-people movement.
“Thousands of students protested against oppression on various campuses. Several women were martyred in this mass uprising,” he added.
He sent his sincere condolences to the July fighters and remembranced those who gave their lives in this mass rebellion.
Regarding the proportion of women, he stated: “Women make up half of the nation’s population. They are making progress in every area.
In addition to guaranteeing women’s rights and empowerment, Dr. Yunus stated that the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs is putting in place a variety of programs to boost women’s involvement and collaboration in all spheres, including the nation’s economic growth.
According to him, shelter homes for women who have been mistreated, are upset, or are defenseless are crucial to ensuring women’s protection. And ‘Women’s Support Centers’ are helping them with their legal needs, he added.
In order to help women become financially independent and guarantee social security, the Chief Adviser stated that housing for working women as well as support and microcredit initiatives to help women start their own businesses are crucial.
He praised the nation’s unwavering women, who are advancing towards the global stage and transcending national boundaries with their own grandeur.
“Various initiatives have been taken to recognize the achievements of women, including the ‘Odommo Nari Puroskar’ and the ‘Begum Rokeya Padak’,” said Dr Yunus.
The current interim government is working tirelessly to achieve the desired goal of building a developed Bangladesh by involving women’s potential and skills in productive work, the head of the government added.
