Shafi Bhuiyan elected as the Board Chair of CCGHR for 2018-2020

Dr. Shafi Bhuiyan, MBBS, MPH, MBA, PhD, Assistant Professor, Clinical Public Health and Socio-Behavioural Health Sciences Division of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto has been elected as the new Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR).

Dr. Bhuiyan is also an adjunct professor in Ryerson University’s Faculty of Community Services and co-founder and program lead of the ITMDs Post-Graduate Bridging Program, Chang School of Continuing Education, Ryerson University.

He is also a pioneer JSPS scientist of MCH Handbook Program in Bangladesh and also founding liaison between Bangladesh and Japan to the improvement of MCHTI at Azimpur Dhaka in 2000.

Established in 2003, the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR) is a knowledge network for global health equity. The CCGHR is a member-based, not-for-profit professional organization representing global health academics, students, researchers and practitioners at institutions across Canada and in the South.

CCGHR promotes global health research as a model and a driver of collaboration, partnership and equity in the generation and use of new knowledge for improving health and well-being globally. With 24 institutional university members in Canada and over 500 individual members worldwide, CCGHR supports research, capacity and partnership building initiatives, policy and advocacy work, and the professional development of young global public health scholars.

The new Chair of CCGHR, Dr. Shafi Bhuiyan MBBS, MPH, MBA, PhD, is a winner of the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians award for civic engagement and leadership in Canada, and an RBC’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrants 2018 award finalist.

He is an internationally recognized leader in global public health education and research initiatives, with diverse experience in both developed and developing countries. Since 2014, he has served as a liaison of the CCGHR –University Advisory Committee, Capacity building Co-chair and Board Treasurer.

Dr. Bhuiyan received his medical degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College, University of Dhaka in Bangladesh, an MPH from Mahidol University in Thailand, a PhD in International Collaboration from Osaka University, Japan and an MBA in Global Healthcare Management from Ted Rogers School of Management at Canada’s Ryerson University.
