Israel to release 602 prisoners in Gaza swap Saturday: Palestinian NGO

According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club advocacy group, Israel would release 602 prisoners from prisons on Saturday as part of a hostage-prisoner exchange with Hamas as part of an ongoing truce agreement in Gaza.

According to Amani Sarahneh, the NGO’s spokeswoman, 47 of those released were re-arrested following their release in a 2011 prisoner exchange, 60 are serving lengthy sentences, 50 are serving life sentences, and 445 are Gazans who were arrested following Hamas’ October 7 attack that precipitated the war, she told AFP on Friday.

108 of the inmates scheduled for release on Saturday will be deported outside of Israel and the Palestinian territories, Sarahneh continued.
