Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary for the chief adviser, claimed today that Donald Trump, the recently elected US president, was not fully informed about the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. “Donald Trump was probably misinformed about the issue of persecution on minorities in Bangladesh. Now, he is the President of the United States, he will definitely be able to see what really happened,” he told a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy here this evening. According to Alam, a lot of false information regarding minorities has been disseminated.
“They will see what is happening in Bangladesh or whether there has been any persecution on minorities because there is a US embassy in Dhaka,” he said, adding that the newly elected US president will undoubtedly be able to learn the truth.
According to the press secretary, nine members of the Hindu community were assassinated for religious grounds, according to a report by the Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian Council.
But, he said, Netra News revealed that there was no religious reason behind their deaths. In most cases, the deaths occurred due to personal enmity or political reasons, he said. “We hope that minority religious leaders will present true reports on the issue and play a responsible role to this end,” the press secretary said. About the reissuance of passports of former speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and her husband, he said the government is probing the issue. Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were present.
“I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos,” Trump wrote in X, formerly Twitter, on October 31 (Thursday).
