According to prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her administration has prioritized science and technology in the nation’s multifaceted and innovative educational system in order to uphold international standards in a world that is constantly changing.
“We have made arrangement of multifaceted education system as employment can be generated both at home and abroad,” she said.
At a ceremony on Monday at Osmani Memorial Auditorium, the prime minister made these remarks while launching the distribution of stipends and tuition fees of insolvent, deserving students from secondary to graduate (pass) and its equivalent level under the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust (PMEAT).
Since 2009, she said, her government had founded 23 public universities and 54 private universities nationwide.
She claimed that in response to the increasing demand around the world, multifaceted colleges have been constructed with courses in digital Islamic, Arabic, agricultural, veterinary medicine, animal science, science and technology, medicine, textiles, maritime studies, aviation, aerospace, and fashion and technology.
The prime minister declared that science, technology, and research-based education are of the utmost importance to her government.
“Any country can’t keep pace with the ever-changing world without knowledge of science, research and technology. So, we have taken measures aimed at competing with the world,” she said.
She also mentioned that after 1975, her government began included funding for research in the budget.
She went on to say that her government has budgeted Tk 100 crore for increasing research and promoting science and technology education.
The prime minister announced the creation of the Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust (PMEAT) with the goal of assisting deserving but financially strapped students in realizing their potential and applying it to the nation’s and the world’s greater good.
In light of this, she quoted Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, who said that a student’s ability to learn cannot be hindered by their financial situation.
