On Wednesday, the government unveiled ‘Sadai’, a Bengali-language smartphone app for selling agricultural products to consumers across the country.
M Abdur Razzaque, the Minister of Agriculture, launched the smartphone app in the capital’s agriculture ministry conference room.
According to him, successful adoption of the app will help assure the quality of agricultural products, fair prices for farmers, and decrease middleman manipulation.
At the same time, the app will aid in the prevention of fraud and the supply of safe and toxic-free items for consumers, according to the minister.
Sadai, which is being implemented by the Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, will connect growers and customers directly, while DAM will oversee the quality and marketing of items sold through the platform.
DAM will also set the price of the products and run a call centre to receive any product-related concerns and take appropriate action, such as cancelling the entrepreneurs’ registration if necessary.
After registering for free on the platform, growers and entrepreneurs will be able to sell their products commission-free.
