A seven-day vote on a constitutional amendment recently passed by parliament to prolong Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rule ended on Wednesday.
The latest news shows that the partial results of the referendum announced, Putin is going to get approval by a huge vote. More than 80 percent of the votes were in favor of amending the constitution. The news agency Reuters and AFP reported this information.
In order to make the voters enthusiastic about voting, some exceptional steps have been taken. E.g .: raffle draw. The prizes were cash, flats, etc. If the vote is in favor of amending the constitution, Putin will be able to stay in power until 2036, meaning he will be able to stay in power for two more terms after the end of his current term.
The results of a state-run booth return poll show that more than two-thirds of voters support Putin’s move.
Voting is set to take seven days to reduce voter turnout in the wake of the spread of coronavirus infection in Russia. Earlier, opinion polls showed Putin gaining 76 percent of the vote.
