Erik Kurzweil, the German Federal Commissioner for Indo-Pacific, South Asia, and Afghanistan, has stated that his nation will continue to support the Bangladeshi people in their efforts to create a new Bangladesh.
According to a news release from the German embassy here today, he made the comment during talks with civil society, students, and politicians.
Vibrant stories of the struggle against the previous regime and the hopes for a New Bangladesh were presented to the commissioner during the meeting.
The Commissioner gave partners the assurance that Germany would remain by their side and would explore ways to expand dialogue on a sustainable transition.
According to the embassy, Kurzweil travelled to Dhaka on an official visit from October 23 to 24 in order to assess the potential for stepping up collaboration and exchanges with Bangladesh.
He met with Nazrul Islam, the Additional Foreign Secretary, at the capital’s foreign ministry while he was there.
Both parties discussed the state of bilateral relations and the situation in Bangladesh throughout the discussion.
Before the year ends, they reaffirmed their desire to sign the bilateral Climate and Development Partnership.
Bangladesh’s second-largest export destination, which heavily depends on the RMG industry, is Germany.
At a roundtable hosted by the Embassy the Commissioner and representatives of German companies in Bangladesh stressed the importance of reforms and reassuring international business partners. Ambassador Kurzweil highlighted the upcoming graduation and stressed necessary preparations in order to qualify for the EU’s GSP+ scheme.
