DGHS asks hospitals to increase beds amid measles surge

To handle the strain of measles patients, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has ordered all government hospitals in the nation to provide more beds.

According to a news release released here today, hospitals have been explicitly told not to reject patients with measles or suspected measles because of a lack of beds.

Dr. Abu Hossain Md. Mainul Ahsan, the Director of the Department of Health (Hospitals and Clinics), signed the directive, which requests that all government hospitals carry it out right away.

It stated that patients with measles or measles symptoms who come to the hospital cannot be turned away even if the beds are not vacant. If necessary, additional beds will be arranged. 

However, the patient may be referred for more sophisticated therapy if their situation is critical.

Referrals must be made in accordance with the district hospital, medical college hospital, upazila health complex, and specialty hospital’s recommended referral chain.

It also cautioned that the head of the relevant hospital would be held responsible if the instructions were not followed.
