Israel spy chief hails ‘groundbreaking’ ops in Iran, Lebanon

Israel’s Mossad chief has praised the spy agency’s “groundbreaking” actions in the fight against Hezbollah and Iran, claiming that it obtained intelligence “from the heart of the enemy’s secrets”.

David Barnea said of the Israeli military, “We worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the IDF, on both defense and offence, in the campaigns against Iran and Hezbollah.”

His comments were published on Tuesday after being made on Monday at a commendation ceremony at Mossad headquarters.

“We acquired strategic and tactical intelligence from the heart of the enemy’s secrets,” Barnea said, adding that Mossad had “proved new, groundbreaking operational capabilities in target countries”.

A ceasefire in the war with Iran, which began with US-Israeli strikes on February 28, has so far held.

In Lebanon, Hezbollah drew the country into the war on March 2 by firing rockets towards Israel to avenge the killing of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei by the US and Israel.

US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire on the Lebanese front earlier this month, which has since been extended.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Monday that Israel was still conducting operations despite the truce and that Hezbollah’s missiles and drones continued to pose a serious threat that required Israeli military action.

According to Hezbollah, it is reacting to “violations” of the ceasefire by Israel.

Although the military and Mossad have “strengthened its might” and altered Israel’s “strategic posture,” Barnea stated that the organization will “not rest on our laurels.”

“When we see a threat, we will act with full force,” he said.
