WFP Invites Supporters to Participate in Ramadan Raising Money to Fight Hunger and Strengthen Bangladesh’s Resilience

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is extending an invitation to the public to participate in its ongoing Ramadan fundraising campaign in order to assist Bangladeshi families who are experiencing food insecurity as the holy month of Ramadan continues.

As part of this initiative, members of the public can donate directly to WFP via its official bKash account (01322846197, account name: World Food Programme) under the Donation section of the app. They can also donate online using this link: https://donation.bkash.com/en/wfp/donate.

Well‑known personalities, including chef and writer, Kishwar Chowdhury, who rose to popularity in both Australia and her home country of Bangladesh after her performance on MasterChef Australia Season 13 (2021), have joined hands with WFP to lend their voices to the campaign.

“This Ramadan, I stand with WFP in their lifesaving and life‑changing work for Bangladeshi communities affected by hunger and at high risk of climate shocks,” said Kishwar. “Every contribution will support WFP’s work across the country, with a focus on women and children facing food and nutrition insecurity.”

Food insecurity is still a major problem in Bangladesh. Approximately 16 million people were experiencing extreme food insecurity in 2025, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) research, and many of them were at risk of falling into emergency levels without ongoing support. Severe food insecurity means families often skip meals, eat less nutritious food, or go entire days without eating because they simply cannot afford or access enough food. The results highlight the critical need for ongoing assistance to save lives and livelihoods, particularly in light of ongoing economic pressures and climate shocks.

“In the spirit of Ramadan, we invite everyone to extend generosity to families struggling to meet their basic food and nutrition needs,” said Simone Parchment, Country Director a.i., WFP Bangladesh. “Every taka given will help families weather emergencies and move toward food security and resilience. We thank Kishwar and other public figures who have joined this effort and call on more friends and partners to stand with us – together, let’s build a hunger-free and prosperous Bangladesh.”
