Thousands gather in Iran in a show of support for attack on Israel

In a show of support for the historic drone and missile attack being carried out against longtime enemy Israel, thousands of Iranians went to the streets early on Sunday.

“Death to Israel!” and “Death to America!” chanted demonstrators in Tehran’s Palestine Square shortly after the Revolutionary Guards announced the launch of Operation Honest Promise.

In the square where a large banner has been hanging for days shouting for Israelis to “take shelter” in Hebrew, a mural with the words “the next slap is fiercer” was unveiled.

On Sunday, protesters held signs that said “God’s victory is near” and waved the national flags of Iran and Palestine.

Iran launched its offensive in reprisal for an attack on April 1 that destroyed the Iranian embassy’s five-story consular annexe in Damascus and claimed the lives of seven Revolutionary Guardsmen, including two generals.

After the incident, which was generally attributed to Israel, Tehran has promised to exact revenge.

An oath made by Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the “evil (Israeli) regime will be punished”.
