Reunited with the “Ashshash” project run by Winrock International with backing from the Swiss Embassy in Bangladesh, bKash is providing assistance to both men and women who have managed to flee human trafficking.
According to a press release, the project’s goal is to enable 6,000 survivors with financial support through bKash until 2027 in order to promote economic rehabilitation, enhance quality of life, and stop re-trafficking.
The two organizations recently struck an agreement in this regard. At the signing ceremony were Dipta Rakshit, Winrock International’s Country Representative for Bangladesh and Project Director; Masrur Chowdhury, bKash’s EVP and Head of Business Sales; Novera Ayesha Zaman, bKash’s VP of NGO Partnerships; Md. Omar Faruk, Winrock International’s Senior Manager of Training and Employment; and other senior officials from both organizations.
Approximately 4,000 survivors were successfully given financial support by bKash during the first phase of the Ashshash project, which ran from 2018 to 2022.
In keeping with this, the project’s second phase will begin in partnership with bKash on June 1, 2024. Since 2018, the ‘Ashshash’ project has been assisting victims of human trafficking with social and economic rehabilitation.
