FBCCI urges NBR to extend the timeframe for submitting returns till Dec 31

The government has been requested by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns by an additional month.

The proposal was made by the nation’s top trade organization in a letter addressed to Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The FBCCI’s letter mentioned that there is a need to extend the deadline for submitting returns till December 31.

Explaining the reason for this, the FBCCI said that the taxpayers did not get much time to prepare themselves this time due to the implementation of the new Income Tax Act-2023 and subsequently the late release of income tax circulars.

In addition, the apex trade association stated that because of the current political climate and the approaching general election, many taxpayers will not be able to complete their returns by November 30.

The FBCCI president, Mahbubul Alam, signed the letter, which also stated that the FBCCI had been asked by a number of trade associations to extend the deadline for submitting income tax reports. In light with Section 334 of the Income Tax Act of 2023, the FBCCI has requested an extension of the deadline for filing income tax returns until December 31, 2023, given the current circumstances.

Under the new Income Tax Act, there is a mandatory provision for submitting income tax returns within the income tax day.

In order to extend the deadline for submission of returns, NBR may declare Tax Day to be observed on any other day after November 30.
