Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to open the Agargaon-Motijheel segment of the much-desired metro train on November 4.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Agargaon-Motijheel section of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line 6 service on November 4,” said MAN Siddique, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
He also mentioned that the Prime Minister and her entourage will be taking the train.
According to Siddique, the Prime Minister will also cut the ribbon on the first MRT Line-6 plaque at Motijheel station and begin construction on the MRT Line-5 (Northern route).
He made these remarks during a press conference that was hosted in the city’s DMTCL conference room. Siddique stated that because of the inaugural celebration on Saturday, November 4, normal metro rail service from Uttara to Agargaon will be interrupted.
The day following the inauguration, on Sunday, metro rail service will be resumed.
The Uttara-Motijheel segment of the metro rail will first run four hours a day, from 7:30 am to 11:30 am. It will run in the Uttara-Agargaon section until 8:30 p.m.
On the Agargaon-Motijheel route, the Metro train will halt at the stations at Farmgate, Bangladesh Secretariat, and Motijheel. There will be a train available every ten minutes.
The 1.16 km route from Motijheel to Kamalapur has been extended in consideration of the convenience of the passengers. By June 2024, the extended section will be finished. The metro rail travels 21 kilometers in total from Uttara to Motijheel.
In July 2012, the government approved the Metrorail project. It was first put into effect until June 2024. The time frame was later extended, though.
