Russia puts ICC president on wanted list

Putin’s arrest is being sought by the International Criminal Court, whose president, Piotr Hofmanski, was placed on the wanted list by Russia on Monday.

“Hofmanski Piotr Jozef, Polish. Wanted under an article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” said a notice in the Russian interior ministry database.

The ministry withheld information about the accusations made against Hofmanski.

The Hague-based court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March in connection with the alleged war crime of forcible deportation of Ukrainian children.

On similar grounds, the ICC also issued an arrest request for Maria Lvova-Belova, the president of Russia’s commission on children’s rights.

Karim Khan, an ICC prosecutor, and a number of judges are the subjects of earlier Russian arrest orders. Russia, which is not a party to the ICC, maintains that the warrant against Putin is “void”.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) established a field office in Ukraine in September as part of attempts to hold Russian forces accountable for their offensive in the nation supported by the West.
