next a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany will hold an international conference on the restoration of Ukraine the next year.
Berlin will host the negotiations on June 11, 2024, the chancellery confirmed in a statement.
The most recent summit of this kind was held in London in June and brought together the leaders and officials of more than 60 nations and financial organizations to release funding for the nation’s post-Russian invasion reconstruction.
The conference’s goal is to assist Ukraine in maintaining its economy and, in the long run, in rebuilding its infrastructure.
On Wednesday, Scholz had a 30-minute meeting with the president of Ukraine outside the UN General Assembly in New York.
The conversations were centered on the political, military, and humanitarian situation in Ukraine, according to the chancellery.
German backing for Kiev will continue, according to Scholz.
In a post on messaging platform Telegram, Zelensky said he and Scholz “discussed the situation on the front line and the priority needs of the defence forces of Ukraine”.
“Special attention was paid to the preparation for the international conference on the restoration of Ukraine, which will be held in Germany,” he added.
