DGHS focuses on preventive measures to contain dengue outbreak

In light of the sharp rise in dengue cases since late June, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today concentrated on preventive efforts to limit the disease’s spread.

“People have been asked not to be panicked about recent spike of dengue… People must be more careful about prevention measures to combat dengue outbreak,” a statement of the DGHS said here.

889 dengue cases were reported yesterday, signaling the worrying rise in dengue infection during the current rainy season.

To prevent the spread of the disease, the DGHS has urged keeping homes both inside and outside spotless and eliminating any potential Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.

To stop the dengue outbreak, it also advised everyone to focus on the following topics.

Some symptoms of suspected dengue cases included a body temperature of 104 degrees, a strong headache, pain behind the eyes, pain in the muscles and joints of the body, frequent vomiting, swollen nasal glands, and a body rash.

According to the DGHS statement, anyone who have a body fever of 104 degrees and are suspected to have dengue should see a doctor very away.

The DGHS also placed a strong emphasis on community and individual preparedness to stop the spread of the dengue virus.

The DGHS advises that Aedes mosquito larvae will perish if water builds up in any container or area of the house and surrounds for three days in a row.

Used utensils should be cleaned by rubbing them with bleaching powder to get rid of mosquito eggs.

Aedes mosquitoes deposit their eggs on flower pots, plastic pots, abandoned tires, plastic drums, clay pots, buckets, tin buckets, tin shells, or coconut garlands, containers, mats, and battery cells, therefore keep them clean.

Mosquito nets must be utilized during the day or when sleeping during the day and night, and unused water containers must be discarded or stored upside down to prevent water from gathering.
