Britain’s Prince Harry loses home on royal estate

According to a spokesman on Wednesday, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are losing their residence on the Windsor estate of the British royal family, leaving them without a base in the country.

The late Queen Elizabeth II gave them the use of Frogmore Cottage as a bridal gift in 2018, and they renovated it for an estimated cost of $2.4 million ($2.9 million).

According to reports in The Sun and Daily Telegraph, Prince Andrew, King Charles III’s disgraced brother, has now been promised it.

“We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage,” a spokesperson for the US-based couple said, without providing further details.

Days after the release of the prince’s frank memoir “Spare,” Harry and Meghan allegedly received a notice ordering them to leave the property in January.
The Buckingham House chose not to respond.

Since his mother passed away in September, Harry’s father Charles, who has long favored a slimmed-down monarchy, has been overhauling the family’s funds.

Due to the high maintenance expenses of his current home, the 30-room Royal Lodge, also on the Windsor estate, Andrew may be forced to leave it if his annual grant of $250,000 is cut.

The pair had “until early summer to vacate,” according to a source cited by Harry and Meghan’s unofficial biographer Omid Scobie in an article on Yahoo News.

In May, Scobie wrote, “Initially they were allowed just weeks, but now they have at least until after the coronation.” The couple has not yet learned whether they will be invited to Charles’s crowning.

It feels very final and like a cruel punishment, the couple’s friend was cited by Scobie as saying.
