Plasma treatment for COVID patients got approval in the US

The United States has given emergency approval to physicians to use plasma to treat Covid-19 patients. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it in an announcement on Sunday, reports CNN.

“I am delighted to be making such a historic announcement in the fight against the Chinese virus,” President Donald Trump told a White House briefing. “It will save our lives.”

Trump also said many medical opportunities will increase from today because of this decision.

At the end of March, the FDA approved the experimental application of plasma to scientists. From then on its application also started. However, like blood, there is a plasma crisis. Because it must come from the donors who have recovered from the disease.

US Health Secretary Alex Azhar told a White House briefing: “We have found that patients who have been given plasma at the beginning or within three days of diagnosis have a higher recovery rate. At least 35 percent of the patients have recovered from the treatment.
