Regulators are waiting for the results of the possible Bangladeshi Covid-19 vaccine test

Experts and drug regulators said today they are awaiting the results of the next trial of a possible Covid-19 vaccine from Globe Biotech Limited. The agency stated their vaccine had received encouraging results in preliminary tests on animals.

COVID-19-National Technical Advisory Committee Chief Professor. Mohammad Shahidullah told BSS, “We are waiting for the next stage of testing. If they succeed, it will be a landmark event for Bangladesh.”

He said the potential vaccine could protect millions of Bangladeshis from the deadly virus. However, he described it as “a huge undertaking”.

Dr Shahidullah’s comments came after the company made significant progress in conducting preliminary testing of the vaccine on five rabbits and found encouraging results.

Globe Biotech spokesman Asif Mahmood said. “We have seen that antibodies have been made in rabbits and we are analyzing blood samples and these antibodies will inactivate their antigens.”

Earlier this month, the company claimed to be a potential developer of the Covid-19 vaccine in a multinational drug competition against the coronavirus.

Globe Biotech says that if all goes well, they hope to have an effective vaccine by 2020 and to test humans in the next third phase.
