In order to guarantee safer and better working conditions for employees nationwide, the Labour Reform Commission published a series of proposals.
On April 21, the commission formally delivered its report to Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor, at the State Guest House in Jamuna.
The research states that employees must have the legal right to a safe and healthy workplace in addition to better access to medical care. To handle the particular hazards and requirements in each industry, sector- and occupation-specific health and safety plans must be created.
The commission also recommended a comprehensive review of compensation policies for workers injured, disabled or killed in workplace accidents. New compensation standards will be outlined to ensure affected workers and their families receive fair and dignified support.
A 10-member Labor Reform Commission was previously established by the interim government on November 17, 2024, under the direction of Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, executive director of the Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS).
Before releasing its report with recommendations, the panel addressed labor-related concerns by consulting with institutions, organizations, and stakeholders.
