French authorities announced on Wednesday that an 18-year-old American student who tossed her newborn child to its death from a hotel window in Paris has been committed to psychiatric treatment.
According to a prosecution source, the infant was “thrown from the second-floor window of a hotel in the 20th arrondissement” in eastern Paris on Monday.
Despite receiving emergency care, the infant did not make it through.
According to a police source, an infant was found in front of the hotel wrapped in a cloth with its umbilical cord still connected, prompting cops to call the police.
The source claimed that the mother had thrown her child out the window after giving birth in a hotel room.
According to French officials, a murder inquiry has been opened. However, now that she is in psychiatric treatment, the woman may be deemed incompetent to stand trial.
Officials said the woman was “part of a group of young adults travelling in Europe”.
