Govt gives free legal aid to over 11.68 lakh poor, helpless people

From 2009 to January 2025, the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) offered government-funded legal aid to 11,68,947 impoverished, defenseless, and financially disadvantaged individuals.

A report that was posted on the NLASO website disclosed this information.

According to the report, 11,68,947 impoverished, defenseless, and bankrupt individuals have benefited from legal aid funded by the government.

Among those who received services, 28,611 received free legal aid from the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 9,27,525 from the 64 district Legal Aid Offices across the nation, 29,075 from the Workers’ Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chittagong, and 1,83,736 from the National Legal Aid Organization’s designated hotline call center number 16430 (toll free).

17,328 people received government-funded legal services via the hotline prior to the establishment of the national helpline.

The ‘Legal Aid Act’ has funded this service at the government’s expense in order to give legal assistance to those who are insolvent and incapable of pursuing justice in the nation.

The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs’ Law and Justice Division oversees the operations of the National Legal Aid Services Organization.
