Minority word should not exist in Bangladesh: Farida Akhter

Farida Akhter, the Fisheries and Livestock Adviser, stated today that the term “minority” should not be used in Bangladesh because it does not distinguish between Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians.

“It is not our job to differentiate among Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians in Bangladesh as everyone is citizen of Bangladesh,” she told a programme, marking the 50th anniversary of HEED Bangladesh at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital this evening.

A new Bangladesh has emerged as a result of the migration of students, workers, and masses, the adviser stated, marking HEED Bangladesh’s 50th anniversary.

According to her, the youngsters that HEED Bangladesh is training would be the ones who sustain the organisation for a lifetime.

PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan, Acting Managing Director of PKSF Md. Fazlul Quader, Senior Secretary of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry M A Akmall Hossain Azad, Health Services Division Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman, Executive Vice Chairman of the Microcredit Regulatory Authority Professor Dr. Mohammad Helal Uddin, Archbishop Bejoy Nicephorus D’Cruze, Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, Executive Director of HEED Bangladesh Anwar Hossain, and other HEED Bangladesh representatives attended the event, which was chaired by Rev. Byron P. Bonik.

Earlier, the Fisheries and Livestock Adviser inaugurated the 50th anniversary of HEED Bangladesh by releasing pigeons and balloons and later she cut a cake.
