Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram must remain open four days a week, according to a regulation released today by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
During his visit to the Chattogram airport today, CAAB Chairman Air Vice-Marshal Md. Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan stated that the decision was made in anticipation of severe fog that could impact flight landings at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
In a CAAB press release released here, the CAAB Chairman clarified that in past years, heavy winter fog frequently required planes to be diverted to foreign airports.
To address this issue domestically, Shah Amanat International Airport will now serve as a contingency option for flights unable to land in Dhaka due to poor visibility. Additionally, Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport will operate round-the-clock for the remaining three days of the week, providing further alternatives for flight diversions.
The CAAB chairman visited Shah Amanat International Airport and examined a number of facilities and current projects, such as the passenger terminal, lounges, runway, apron, new boarding bridge, children’s park, and roadways.
He was pleased with how these projects were going and underlined how crucial it is to greatly improve passenger services.
In order to increase airport efficiency and safety, he urged all parties to move quickly to complete these development projects.
The Chairman also underscored the critical role of airport modernization in enhancing passenger experience and operational security, directing officials to ensure swift and smooth execution of all development activities.
