Trump campaign says hit by hackers

The campaign of Donald Trump announced on Saturday that it had been compromised, accusing “foreign sources” of disseminating internal emails and a J.D. Vance dossier.

The move was allegedly orchestrated by Iran, according to Trump’s team, after Politico revealed that it had obtained emails containing the campaign materials from an anonymous source.

“These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our Democratic process,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.

Iranian hackers “sent a spear phishing email in June to a high-ranking official on a presidential campaign,” according to a Microsoft report that Cheung referenced this week.

Politico got papers that contained research on Vance’s background as Trump’s choice for vice president.

A 2016 DNC email attack, which was attributed to Russian interference, revealed party internal correspondence, including information regarding candidate Hillary Clinton.

Trump, who would go on to win the election, was criticized for encouraging the hack.
