In the most recent installment of the months-long wedding celebrations hosted for the son of Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, Canadian pop star Justin Bieber provided entertainment for some of the top celebrities in India.
One of the international celebrities that flew to India for the wedding celebrations of Ambani’s younger son Anant and fiancée Radhika Merchant is Bieber, who rose to fame as a teenage heartthrob.
He and Merchant, both 29, have been friends since they were young children, and on July 12 they will tie the knot in a three-day Hindu ceremony.
Arriving from Los Angeles, Bieber was seen Friday morning at the Mumbai airport sporting a bucket hat and an enormous pink T-shirt.
He sang his 2015 hit song “Sorry” in front of hundreds of VIP attendees during his concert in the financial district that evening, according to footage he posted on social media.
Salman Khan from Bollywood and M.S. Dhoni, the former captain of India’s cricket team, were two of the famous attendees on Friday.
According to claims in Indian media, Bieber may have received up to $10 million for the performance.
Prior to the major event this month, Anant Ambani and Merchant had already thrown two extravagant, celebrity-filled events, including a three-day gala in Gujarat state in February.
There, in front of visitors like Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook, and Ivanka Trump, the daughter of former US president Donald Trump, Rihanna gave her first concert since the Super Bowl of the previous year.
Singer Katy Perry performed at a masquerade event at a French chateau in Cannes during the couple’s four-day Mediterranean cruise in June.
Entertainment was also given by US rapper Pitbull, Italian singer Andrea Bocelli, and the Backstreet Boys.
Anant’s father is a multibillionaire businessman who has thrown lavish weddings before.
In 2018, he threw his daughter the most lavish wedding in India to date, reportedly spending $100 million and included American artist Beyonce.
According to Forbes’ list of billionaires, Ambani, the 67-year-old chairman of Reliance Industries, is the 11th richest person in the world with a net worth of over $113 billion.
Additionally, he is a significant ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a right-wing Hindu nationalist in India.
Ambani took over a prosperous industrial business that included petrochemicals, gas, and oil.
He turned it into an enormously profitable business that now owns significant stakes in telecommunications, retail, and an Indian Premier League cricket club.
Merchant is a well-known pharmaceutical mogul’s daughter.
