This evening, the nation will commemorate the holy Shab-e-Qadr, also called Lailatul Qadr (the Night of Decree), on which Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) received the first revelations of the holy Quran.
The Muslim faithful will spend the night praying, reciting verses from the holy Quran, performing zikr and other religious rites, and pleading with the Almighty Allah for prosperity, long life, and peace for themselves, their loved ones, and the Muslim Ummah as a whole.
On this special occasion, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have greeted their fellow citizens and the Muslim Ummah worldwide.
It is a public holiday tomorrow in observance of Lailatul Qadr.
While state-run Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and private television channels are running special programs stressing the significance of the Lailatul Qadr, newspapers wrote special stories on the occasion.
The holy Quran states that this night is superior than a thousand nights because, with Allah’s permission and according to all of His decrees, angels and spirits descend into it.
One of the holiest and most blessed nights of the entire 10-day Ramadan is expected to fall on an odd-numbered night, which is most likely the 27th of the holy month.
On nights like these, devotees typically go to cemeteries in order to pray for the afterlife to grant their loved ones’ souls eternal peace.
Muslims view the entire month of Ramadan as a time for spiritual preparation. In addition to fasting, they spend their time in prayer, giving alms, and memorizing the Quran.
In honor of the holy Shab-e-Qadr this evening, Baitul Mukarram National Mosque will host a Doa-Mahfil and debate.
The Doa Mahfil and discussion on “Importance and significance of the Holy Shab-e-Qadr” will be held by the Islamic Foundation at 6:45 p.m. following Magrib prayers.
Muhammad Abdul Hamid Jamaddar, the secretary of religious affairs, will be the main guest at the event.
Director General (DG) of the Islamic Foundation Dr. Muhammad Bashirul Alam will serve as the event’s chairman, while Mufti Mawlana Sakibul Islam will also be present as a discussant.
