Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has received congratulations from Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland KC on her win in Bangladesh’s national parliamentary election.
“My congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her electoral victory,” she said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
She went on, “The Commonwealth Secretariat looks forward to working with Sheikh Hasina for the people of Bangladesh and all members of the Commonwealth Family and stands ready to partner with Bangladesh to achieve national priorities.”
The 12th parliamentary election in 299 seats took place on January 7. The Awami League-led 14-party combine’s partners, the Workers Party and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasod), each received one seat, while the Bangladesh Awami League won 222 seats, the Jatiya Party won 11 seats, and independent candidates won 62 seats. In the polls, the Bangladesh Kalyan Party secured one seat.
Meanwhile, the list of 298 MPs was released today in the gazette by the Election Commission (EC).
