According to officials, four Mexicans were climbing the nation’s tallest mountain on Sunday when they fell and perished.
They were climbing the Pico de Orizaba volcano, which rises to a height of 5,600 meters (18,500 feet), in south-central Mexico.
The Puebla state civil protection department posted on Facebook that an operation to recover the dead is now under progress.
While ascending the mountain’s southern slope, the climbers lost their footing.
The tallest volcano in North America and the highest peak in Mexico are both named Pico de Orizaba.
Perla Tijerina, a climber from Mexico, completed a dare in April by spending 32 days at the summit.
