Heavy rain forces evacuation of over 20,000 people in north China’s Hebei

Typhoon Doksuri, the fifth typhoon of this year, has caused continuous severe rains in the province of Hebei, in north China, forcing 20,656 people to leave Shijiazhuang, the province’s capital.

The majority of Hebei was pounded by downpours from Friday at 8 p.m. until Sunday at 6 a.m. Some weather observation stations in the province have recorded more than 400 mm of precipitation. At 5 a.m. on Sunday, the regional weather observatory issued a red alert for heavy rain.

The provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters made the decision at one in the morning on Sunday to lower the flood control and typhoon emergency response from level III to level II due to the expected continuation of the precipitation.

Taihang Mountain’s isolated Fuping County has moved 1,901 residents from 601 houses at risk of geological calamities and mountain floods.
