Brazil expects a record grain harvest of 299.7 million tons this year, up 13.9 percent from the previous year, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) on Thursday.
Rice, corn, and soybeans, Brazil’s three primary agricultural products, will account for 92.4 percent of overall agricultural production this year and 87.4 percent of harvested area, according to the agency’s March predictions.
Soybean output is forecast to increase by 23.2 percent year on year to 147.2 million tons, while corn output is expected to increase by 8.7 percent to 119.8 million tons, but rice output is expected to decrease by 7.6 percent to 9.8 million tons.
Brazil, the world’s largest coffee producer and exporter, will see a 6.5 percent growth in coffee production to reach 55.7 million of 60 kg sacks.
Meanwhile, Brazil will plant 76.1 million hectares of cereal, legume and oilseed crops, up by 3.9 percent from the previous year.
