According to the India Meteorological Department, a mid-cold wave is currently affecting portions of northern India, while Safdarjung in Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius today. The IMD said that Aya Nagar, a neighborhood in Delhi, experienced a minimum temperature of 2.6 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road recorded 2.8 degrees Celsius, and Palam recorded 5.2 degrees Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “orange” notice stating that “cold day conditions to prevail at isolated places today and dense fog and a cold wave is likely at a few places today.”
On Sunday morning, a dense layer of fog reduced visibility throughout Delhi and the surrounding areas. According to reports, the national capital and neighboring states continue to experience extreme cold and fog.
Due to the thick fog, many flights and trains have been canceled. At the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), 20 aircraft have been delayed up till 1 p.m. owing to weather and other operational problems.
According to the weather office, very dense fog in isolated pockets is very likely to occur over Uttarakhand, north Rajasthan, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Tripura for the next three days until Tuesday.
“Very ground frost conditions will prevail in isolated places of north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh on January 8-9,” it added.
Additionally, 42 trains were delayed between one hour to five hours as a result of the fog, according to a Northern Railway representative.
According to the IMD, a cold wave and frigid days will persist throughout northwest India over the next two days until Monday.
