A state of emergency has been declared in Florida, USA. The decision was made on Sunday after cracks were found in a chemical waste disposal tank in the Tampa Bay area.
Governor Ron Desantis said a warning had been issued in the area around the ‘Painy Point’ reservoir as toxic water spread; The highway is closed because the authorities are in danger of landslides and floods due to water pressure.
Residents of more than 300 homes in the area are being evacuated. The 8-acre reservoir holds millions of gallons of water mixed with phosphorus and nitrogen. Where the crack was found, it has been undergoing rapid repair work since Friday.
Initially the water in the reservoir is being pumped out. As a result, the water level is below the crack.
