Coronavirus was first reported in late 2019 in Wuhan, China, but has now spread worldwide in the form of an epidemic. Due to which low-income people in different countries including Bangladesh have to fight to maintain their lives. They are spending their days half-fed or fasting. Bangladeshi online platform ‘Songjog’ has started to do some humanitarian works for the people in need.
The Bangladesh government has announced a two-month shutdown to reduce the spread of coronavirus. At this time, various political, voluntary, and socio-cultural organizations have come forward to stand by the helpless people. Using social media, many humanitarians are trying to raise funds for the poor, destitute, and distressed people during this ongoing nationwide shutdown.

Late March of this year, Ahmed Javed Jamal, an engineer by profession and a former student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), initiated a page on Facebook called ‘Sanjjag, Connecting People’ to help people cope with the current situation.
From the beginning, Songjog has been doing various humanitarian work to bring smiles on the faces of helpless people. Asked about the purpose of the Songjog, Ahmed Javed Jamal said the Sangjag would work as a charity. He added that they will make plans in the future on how to stay close to the victims of the COVID-19 situation.

On behalf of the generous donors, recently Songjog has provided financial aid to 20 people who used to do printing before being jobless. Earlier, using the platform, Abu Yusuf, a member of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, received 700 personal safety equipment (PPE) for members of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines’s traffic department from various donors. Abu Yusuf expressed gratitude to all the kind-hearted peoples who contributed to the PPE.
Songjog also gave away PPEs among 3000 health workers and these activities are still going on. Besides health workers, police personnel, volunteers, and those engaged in the burial of corona patients were provided with the PPEs.
Songjog is also conducting food distribution activities in some places under the direct supervision of donors. Among the teachers of the schools deprived of the MPO facility, Songjog is distributing cash and food aid. In this regard, people concerned with Songjog made a list of 500 teachers and have already provided assistance to 350 of them till now.
