Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam has announced that the government is considering involving the army, if necessary, for constructing flood protection dams in Feni.
“The government is always concerned about the flood related problems in Feni. The government has a plan for its permanent solution. So, it is considering the involvement of the army in the construction of sustainable flood protection dam,” he stated.
The adviser made this remark today while addressing a gathering of flood-affected people at Munshirhat Ali Azam High School in Fulgazi.
Faruk E Azam assured that relief will be provided to flood-affected individuals as long as they remain in shelter centers. He added that upon their return home, each family will receive a week’s supply of rice, pulses, oil, and salt.
Responding to questions from journalists, the Adviser mentioned that while geo-bags were previously supplied for dam construction, tube bags with better technology will now be provided. He emphasized that the government is sincerely working towards a permanent solution to the flood problem.
Urging people to remain calm, the adviser highlighted the progress made, noting that while the 2009 flood claimed about 19 lives in Feni, this year there have been no casualties. “That means we are moving forward,” he observed.
Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Mostafizur Rahman and other senior government officials were present at the event.
