Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Friday called for collaborative efforts to achieve premier telecommunications and information technology services across all sectors.
He affirmed the interim government’s commitment to the development of the country’s telecommunication and information technology (IT) sectors, emphasizing the ensured transparency and accountability in all related activities.
The Chief Adviser made these remarks on the eve of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which is being observed in Bangladesh on Saturday under the theme ‘Gender Equality in Digital Transformation’.
“I am pleased to note that World Telecommunication and Information Society Day will be celebrated on May 17th in Bangladesh, aligning with global observances,” he added.
The Chief Adviser underscored that the equitable participation of men and women in all facets of digital transformation and the utilization of telecommunication services and IT is a fundamental requirement for establishing a non-discriminatory and modern society.
He further stated that the interim government is dedicated to ensuring equal opportunities and rights for both genders in all aspects of digital transformation, upholding the spirit of the July mass uprising. He added, “Therefore, I believe the theme ‘Gender Equality in Digital Transformation’ holds significant importance.”
He highlighted the ongoing launch of various information technology services through union information and service centers nationwide, noting that initiatives such as ‘She-STEM’ training for female students and specialized freelancing training for women entrepreneurs have already been undertaken.
“Bangladesh is poised to connect to satellite-based high-speed internet networks, marking a significant milestone in ensuring continuous internet service throughout the country, including remote and inaccessible regions,” he added.
Professor Yunus also expressed his strong conviction that through collective endeavors, Bangladesh can evolve into an inclusive, progressive, and equality-based nation, with digital equality at the forefront of its development.
