Seminar on ‘Youth Engagement in Adventure and Golf Tourism’ Highlights Role of Youth in Shaping Bangladesh’s Tourism Industry

The seminar titled ‘Youth Engagement in Adventure Tourism and Golf Tourism’ was organized through the on 23rd of April, 2025. This program was held held at the Dhaka Club in the capital emphasized. They noted that the youth will be the guiding force in shaping the future of the country’s tourism industry.

The seminar, organized jointly by the Bangladesh Adventure Tourism Association (BATA) and Bangladesh Integrated Rural Based Association (BIRBA), with support from Arunima Resort Golf Club, took place on Wednesday (April 23) at 5:00 PM at the Dhaka Club. Nasreen Jahan, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, attended the seminar as the chief guest. Saima Shaheen Sultana, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, and Mohammad Aminul Islam NDC, Secretary of the National Sports Council, were present as special guests.

Youth must be involved in the development of the country’s tourism industry, focusing on ‘Adventure’ and ‘Golf Tourism’, says chief guest Secretary Nasreen Jahan.

Chairperson of the Seminar, Khabir Uddin Ahmed, expressed that the youth must be actively engaged in the overall development of the country’s tourism sector. He emphasized that under the leadership of young people, adventure and golf tourism will flourish, and a social movement will take root within the tourism industry. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, along with its affiliated bodies, including the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation and Bangladesh Tourism Board, have already initiated various steps in this direction.

He further highlighted that private sector organizations in Bangladesh have made significant progress in this area. Through this seminar, the Bangladesh Adventure Tourism Association (BATA) and BIRBA have opened up new horizons for the country’s tourism industry. The youth have already proven that change and development are possible with the power of youth. The chief guest also noted that adventure tourism and sports, particularly golf, are critical components in the tourism sector. He expressed hope that golf will attract many foreign tourists to the country. The youth are also playing a vital role in the development of adventure tourism.

The President of Arunima Resort Golf Club and Bangladesh Adventure Tourism Association, Khabir Uddin Ahmed, stated that, just like other countries around the world, the popularity of golf sports and golf tourism in Bangladesh is steadily increasing under the leadership of the youth. On the other hand, adventure tourism in the country is also progressing with the leadership of young people. He further mentioned that he has led youth initiatives during his student and youth years, and served as the Worldwide Vice President of JCI. He has traveled extensively around the world and continues to do so, gaining significant experience in the field of adventure and golf tourism, as well as overall tourism development. Based on this experience, the Arunima Resort Golf Club was established to provide enhanced services to both domestic and international tourists and to spark interest in golf among the youth. He emphasized that by involving the youth in the tourism industry, they will stay away from negative activities and focus on the development of adventure and golf tourism, as well as the overall growth of the country’s tourism sector. He expressed heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Honorable Chief of Army Staff, Bangladesh Army, and President of the Bangladesh Golf Federation, General Walker-Uz-Zaman OSP, SJGP, PSC, for visiting Arunima Resort Golf Club, which has since reached new heights of excellence.

In her speech, Saima Shaheen Sultana, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, emphasized the importance of developing adventure and golf tourism and expressed a keen interest in adopting various plans and initiatives for its growth.

The Secretary of the National Sports Council of Bangladesh (NSCB), Aminul Islam, in his speech, emphasized the active involvement of the youth in the development of sports in the country and stated that more efforts should be made to engage them further. He also expressed his commitment to providing all possible support for the advancement of golf sports and golf tourism.

Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rahim Khan, Senior Faculty and Wing Chief at the Bangladesh Institute of Governance and Management, presented a paper at the seminar. In his paper, he focused on the importance of adventure and golf tourism in the overall development of the country’s tourism industry. The paper highlighted ways to involve the youth in the development of adventure and golf tourism, and the potential benefits of their involvement. The paper also made recommendations on how to accelerate the integration of the youth into the country’s tourism industry.

Other speakers at the seminar included Mashiur Khondkar, Secretary General of BATA, Rafiuzzaman Rafi, President of TOA, Aslam Khan, Chairman of TDAB, Mohiuddin Helal, Chairman of ISC for Tourism and Hospitality, Tanzim Anwar, President of the Aviation and Tourism Journalist Forum, Toufik Rahman, Secretary General of PATA Bangladesh Chapter, and Miz Touhida Sultana Runa, President of the World Travel and Tourism Club. Additionally, leaders from various associations related to the development of tourism in Bangladesh and prominent figures in the tourism sector participated in the discussions.
