In a proactive move to mitigate the risk of dengue outbreaks during the upcoming rainy season, the Bangladesh Army is set to assist the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in its anti-mosquito initiatives. This collaboration aims to enhance the effectiveness of insecticide application and ensure public health safety.
DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ezaz highlighted the challenges faced in mosquito control, stating, “Anti-Mosquito repellents are not used properly which is a major challenge for destroying the vermin in the city.” He emphasized the importance of proper insecticide usage and welcomed the army’s involvement in overseeing the application process.
To bolster mosquito control efforts, DNCC plans to deploy mosquito traps across its jurisdiction. Each trap is designed to cover a 100-meter radius and can eliminate approximately three to four kilograms of mosquitoes daily. The initial phase will focus on Zone 1, encompassing the Uttara and Khilkhet areas.
Addressing the need for community engagement, Ezaz announced the recruitment of 5,000 youth volunteers to participate in awareness campaigns and field activities related to dengue prevention. Furthermore, DNCC intends to convene meetings with hospital directors within its area to discuss preparedness measures, including the establishment of dedicated dengue treatment corners.
Emphasizing the collective responsibility in combating dengue, Ezaz stated, “Dengue is a major health crisis. Everyone has to be prepared to deal with this crisis. Since dengue mosquitoes breed at homestead, we all have to be aware of this.”
