Eid-ul-Fitr is an Arabic word meaning “festival of breaking of the fast”.The festival marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk during the holy month.
On the Eid day morning, usually, Muslim devotees gather at mosques and prayer venues to perform Eid prayers and greet each other.
The celebration involves sharing sweets, throwing food parties, and going to friends’ and family’s homes.
Children receive “Salami” (monetary gifts) from their elders, family members, and well-wishers in addition to new clothes and shoes.
People use the opportunity to express their gratitude to Allah for enabling them to finish their month-long spiritual fast and to forgive.
Many Muslims give food and money to those who are less fortunate.
