CA’s visit to China will be a milestone: Envoy

Yao Wen, the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, predicted that Chief Advisor Prof. Muhammad Yunus’ trip to China will be fruitful and beneficial.

“It will be very successful, productive and a milestone visit with some announcements,” he said when a journalist approached him after his meeting with foreign secretary Md Jashim Uddin at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.

“We are working very closely with Bangladesh….we are still discussing,” he said adding, “Wait and see. We are still working on it.”

As China and Bangladesh commemorate 50 years of diplomatic ties, the ambassador stated that this is something between the two nations.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain later told reporters that while no deal would be signed during the visit, a number of memorandums of understanding would probably be signed.

In order to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Conference in Hainan Province, Chief Adviser Professor Yunus is expected to depart for China on March 26.

He is scheduled to speak at the opening plenary session of the conference on March 27 and could meet with Ding Xuexiang, the Executive Vice Premier of China.

On March 28, the Chief Adviser is set to meet President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

He is also likely to visit a high-tech enterprise under Huawei and give an interview with a leading Chinese media outlet.
Peking University will confer an honorary doctorate on Dr. Yunus on March 29.

The chief adviser is expected to return home the same day.
