Farida Akhter, a Fisheries and Livestock Adviser, asked everyone involved today to provide Mobile Veterinary Clinic (MVC) services to the impoverished in rural areas.
“MVC is a great achievement in the context of Bangladesh. However, its proper use must be ensured,” she said while distributing MVC to 115 upazila livestock departments at Livestock Research Centre (LRI) in city’s Mohakhali.
According to Farida, MVC is a hospital with all the equipment needed for treating animals. She also mentioned a surgeon.
The advisor requested that the livestock department’s director general and other relevant parties contact distant farmers about the service. She advised care should be taken to make sure it isn’t used for anything else.
She said, “It is often seen that we provide services to large or commercial farms. In this case, in addition to providing services to them, we need to take measures to reach out to rural and remote farmers.”
She urged them to learn about this service and take initiatives for it.
Farida Akhter said if an animal is sick, many animals around it may also get sick. “Keeping this in mind, care must be taken for all animals. So that sick animals cannot come to the market. Care must be taken for all livestock and birds,” she added.
In addition to Director General of the Department of Livestock Dr. Abu Sufian, the event was attended by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Nilufa Akhter, Director (Administration) of the Department of Fisheries Dr. Md. Boyzar Rahman, Project Director of the Livestock and Dairy Development Project Dr. Md. Jasim Uddin, and Spokesperson of the Shailkupa Combined Farm Council and Farmers Federation Md. Tanzir Alam Robin.
