BNNRC has endorsed the UN Global Digital Compact

Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has endorsed the Global Digital Compact (GDC), which the United Nations spearheaded to create an open, safe, and secure digital future for all.

BNNRC joins thousands of people and organizations worldwide for the UN GDC to pursue the following objectives: 1. Close all digital divides and accelerate progress across the Sustainable Development Goals; 2. Expand inclusion in and benefits from the digital economy for all; 3. Foster an inclusive, open, safe and secure digital space that respects, protects and promotes human rights; 4. Advance responsible, equitable and interoperable data governance approaches; 5. Enhance international governance of artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity.

Global Digital Compact is a comprehensive digital technology and artificial intelligence governance framework. Twenty years after the World Summit on the Information Society, it charts a roadmap for global digital cooperation to harness digital technology’s immense potential and close digital divides.
Negotiated by 193 Member States and informed by global consultations, the Global Digital Compact (GDC) commits governments to upholding international law and human rights online and taking concrete steps to make the digital space safe and secure. The Compact recognizes the critical contributions of the private sector, technical communities, researchers, and civil society to digital cooperation. It calls on all stakeholders to work together to realize an open, safe, and secure digital future.

The BNNRC, in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and accredited by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), of the United Nations, and the UN WSIS prize winner 2016, Champion 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023 for media development, and digital transformation.

Since 2020, BNNRC has contributed as the national secretariat for stakeholder participation in the Global Digital Compact process in Bangladesh.

BNNRC has strategically and confidently shifted its focus towards digital development, information integrity, and online spaces, delving deeper into digital Development and digital localization since 2015. This strategic shift, a testament to our adaptability and forward-thinking, has opened new possibilities and opportunities for us to make a difference.
