JU protest demands speedy trial of rape incidents

On Sunday night, Jahangirnagar University (JU) students blocked the Dhaka-Aricha Highway as part of a protest, calling for a prompt trial in the recent rape cases.

Around 10:45 p.m., students protesting under the name “Dhorson Birodhi Manch (Anti-Rape Platform)” marched toward the Dhaka-Aricha Highway next to the university’s main entrance and established a 45-minute blockade.

Addressing the program, Ayesha Siddika Meghla, a member of the platform, said, “The recent rape incidents across the country are frightening for us. It is shameful that we have to take to the streets to demand justice for rape. We want the interim government to take visible steps against rape as soon as possible.”

Meher Afroze Shawli, spokesperson for the platform, said, “Rape incidents are increasing in the country, which is shameful. These incidents not only deteriorate law and order but also undermine our values. The government must take stern action to restore law and order as early as possible.”
