Thai visa eased for critical patients, UN events participants, athletes 

With effect from Sunday, the Thai embassy in Dhaka has simplified the Thai visa application process for certain groups, such as athletes, critical patients, and attendees of UN activities.

“In response to the increasing demand for Thai e-visas following the service’s introduction in Bangladesh in January 2025, the Thai embassy has announced additional visa facilitation for specific groups,” said a press release issued by the embassy here today.   

It stated that pregnant applicants experiencing complications or about to give birth, as well as critical patients in need of life-saving medical procedures like chemotherapy, major surgeries, cancer treatments, and cardiac care, should get in touch with their Thai hospital or an official hospital representative in Bangladesh to confirm the urgency of their request and communicate it to the embassy.

One attendant may accompany each patient. It also stated that other attendants could apply as usual.

Apart from patients, participants of conferences, seminars and workshops organized by UN agencies in Bangkok should request the organizing agency to send their name and contact details to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand for visa facilitation. 

Besides, athletes attending an international competition in Thailand should request the relevant sports association of Thailand or the Sports Authority of Thailand to send their name and contact details to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand for visa facilitation. 

In order to notify the embassy in advance of the anticipated event, participants could also send an email.

The Thai embassy in Dhaka claims that it is actively trying to improve the application and payment procedures in order to give applicants a better experience and service.

It is highly advised that candidates submit their applications as soon as possible, as the processing of visas takes at least 10 working days.

According to the statement, payment will not be accepted on February 12, 2025, as the embassy will be closed in observance of Magha Puja Day, a Buddhist holy holiday.
